This place shows you how to do it without the tool. And about the magazine bag/mag. bag for short, there are a lot of places where you can learn it, but I prefer this one. There's also a purse you can crochet with yarn and pop tabs. If you don't want to make it, you can buy the purse from Nahui Olin, the preferred one, (no offense Ecoist) Ecoist, the other one, or many others.
